Community Meeting: Immigration Information

This meeting will include presentations from some of the most knowledgable immigration experts in Bakersfield. They will discuss many important topics on immigration such as Deferred Action for childhood arrivals as well as the process for applying for citizenship and the procedures on how to fill out the forms. Other topics discussed will be the options for non-citizens facing criminal charges and the requirements and procedures for filling out Adjustment of Status forms. There is a telephone scam spreading through several counties threatening those who fail to report to jury duty with arrest fines. It is an Iphone app that advises people their name has been seen at a local court location and they are instructed to call the following number: (704)319-7242. A recording at the number advises the caller to press 1 to pay a $500 fine or to press 3 to report to jail.

Self Help Assistance Telephone assistance is limited. We can answer simple questions over the phone but do not perform legal research and contact with an answer. Email assistance is limited too. We try our best to respond to email questions sent to us in a timely matter. However, our walk-in customers are our first priority.

The Shriver Program helps landlords and tenants.  It is located on the first floor of the courthouse at 1415 Truxtun Ave. (to the right when you enter the building) The current hours are Monday-Thursday 8:30-4:00 (closed 12:00-1:00 for lunch)

 

For those of you in Lake Isabella: There is now an opportunity to speak with representatives from the Kern County Law Library and the Kern County Family Law Facilitator on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of every month at the Family Resource Center with the use of video conferencing equipment.
